Precision architecture, built on trust

A tourist town on a 12.3-hectare site in Khiva, 1 km from Ichan Qala. The plan draws on Vazir, the first capital of the Khiva Khanate (c. 1511) and a trading city on the Silk Road, now lost: the main forms, street network and central spaces of its surviving archaeological plan were traced and reinterpreted for present-day tourism.
The site is divided into hotel, trade, dining and parking zones. Small hotels provide 268 rooms, and shops and craft buildings, restaurants, a museum and fountains line the inner streets and squares, for 30,061.4 m² of buildings in total.
